ORIGINES BRITANNICAE,OR, THE ANTIQUITIES OF THE BRITISH CHURCHES
By Ed Stillingfleet

Author Bio: D.D. Dean of St Pauls, and Chaplain in ordinary to His Majesty. Edward Stillingfleet (17 April 1635 – 27 March 1699) was a British Christian theologian and scholar. Considered an outstanding preacher as well as a strong polemical writer defending Anglicanism, Stillingfleet was known as "the beauty of holiness" for his good looks in the pulpit,[1] and was called by John Hough "the ablest man of his time".

Provenance: Coleridge 1900

Synopsis: The Origines Britannicae, like a number of Stillingfleet's other works, examined the sources of British church history to develop a distinctly English Christian tradition severed from the influence of Rome. Origines Britannicae was reprinted as late as 1710, and Stillingfleet's somewhat ahistorical views on the origins of British Christianity remained influential well into the 18th century
