SYNOPSIS
The Complete Poems presents the poetic achievement of John Keats, whose extraordinary body of work was produced during a remarkably brief life and literary career.
The collection ranges from early poems and sonnets through the ambitious narrative works Endymion, Isabella; or, The Pot of Basil, The Eve of St Agnes and Lamia, to the great odes of 1819 and the unfinished Hyperion poems. Across these works Keats explores beauty, love, imagination, classical mythology, nature, transience and mortality in some of the most celebrated language of the Romantic period.
John Barnard’s authoritative editing provides a carefully established text, while Andrew Motion’s introduction places Keats and his achievement in literary and biographical context. Simon Brett’s finely executed engravings complement the poems throughout, making this Folio Society edition both an enjoyable reading copy and an attractive collector’s volume.
