By Alexander Gilchrist
Author Bio: Alexander Gilchrist (1828–1861) was an English biographer, best known for his lives of William Etty and William Blake. Illustrator Bio: W. J. Linton, after William Blake’s own works
William James Linton (1812–1897) was an English-born wood-engraver, artist, political reformer and author. His facsimile work helped make Blake’s visual imagination available to a wider Victorian readership.

The first volume gives the biography; the second volume preserves selections from Blake’s poetry and prose, illustrated material, manuscript extracts and a catalogue of Blake’s works.
