A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME
From the Big Bang to Black Holes

Grey card wrappers, with titles printed in black. An uncommon pre-publication proof of Hawking’s best-known work: a landmark popular science title that brought black holes, cosmology, the Big Bang, and theoretical physics to a wide general readership.
By Stephen Hawking

Author Bio: Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA (8 January 1942 – 14 March 2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author. He was Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge, and from 1979 to 2009 held the Lucasian Professorship of Mathematics, one of the most prestigious academic posts in the sciences.

Synopsis: This advance uncorrected proof represents an early pre-publication state of A Brief History of Time, issued before the first trade edition. The work became one of the defining popular science books of the late twentieth century, introducing non-specialist readers to the structure and origins of the universe, black holes, time, relativity, quantum theory, and the search for a unified theory of physics.
This proof is bibliographically interesting as an unfinished advance state: the illustrations are omitted, and the text of Carl Sagan’s introduction is not present, although Sagan is credited on the title page. A desirable collector’s copy of a major modern science title, especially appealing to collectors of physics, cosmology, modern scientific thought, and pre-publication proofs.

Format: Softcover, Octavo (Standard) (8vo 6 × 9 in 152 × 229 mm )
Note: Binding/size selection follows standard bibliographic conventions and is approximate; exact measurements may vary.
