A handsome and complete example of the first trade edition of one of Edmund Dulac's most celebrated illustrated gift books, published by Hodder & Stoughton in [1910].
The Sleeping Beauty and Other Fairy Tales from the Old French brings together a selection of classic fairy tales retold by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and illustrated with 30 tipped-in colour plates by Edmund Dulac. This copy retains all 30 colour plates and all 30 accompanying tissue guards.
The volume is presented in the publisher's richly decorated red-brown morocco-grain cloth, elaborately blocked in gilt to the upper board and spine. Dulac's atmospheric illustrations, combining eighteenth-century-inspired costume and settings with his characteristic colour and decorative detail, make this one of the outstanding illustrated gift books of the Edwardian period.

Very Good - An attractive and complete example in the original elaborately gilt publisher's binding. Boards with minor rubbing, bumping and scuffing consistent with age, with wear at the spine head and tail, more noticeable at the head, and lesser wear to corners and extremities. The gilt decoration remains attractive and gives the volume considerable shelf presence.
Internally, the illustrated contents are notably well preserved. All 30 tipped-in colour plates are present, together with all 30 original tissue guards. The colour plates remain bright and attractive.
A desirable copy of Dulac's celebrated 1910 fairy-tale book, particularly notable for retaining its complete complement of colour plates and tissue guards.
