A. J. P. Taylor (Alan John Percivale Taylor, 1906–1990) was a hugely influential British historian, renowned for sharp, provocative writing on modern European and British history and for bringing history to mass audiences through journalism and television. Educated at Oxford, he taught at Manchester and later at Magdalen College, Oxford, and became famous for his witty, accessible style as well as his studies of diplomacy and 19th–20th century Europe.
