DESCRIPTION
IO TYPHON
A Hymnal One of only 23 hand-numbered deluxe copies · Full leather · Slipcased · Additional hymn exclusive to the deluxe issue A striking deluxe issue of Harper Feist's IO TYPHON: A Hymnal, an exploration and invocation of Typhon-Set: the syncretic Greco-Egyptian figure combining the Greek Typhon with the Egyptian god Set, encountered with particular force in the magical traditions of late antiquity and the Greco-Egyptian Magical Papyri. Published by Grayle Press in a standard limited issue of 219 copies and an exceptionally small deluxe issue of only 23 hand-numbered copies, this is copy no. 6/23. The deluxe issue is substantially differentiated from the standard edition, being bound in full dark-grey leather, housed in a matching black slipcase, and incorporating an additional hymn by Harper Feist not present in the standard issue. The physical production is particularly successful. Both binding and slipcase carry a large foil-stamped dragon device; the spine is lettered and numbered in red; the volume has striking viscera-like marbled endpapers, grey-and-red headbands and Smyth-sewn construction. Printed on heavy cream stock and illustrated by Rowan E. Cassidy with three black-and-white compositions and seven sigils, it is conceived as much as an esoteric book-object as a work of contemporary ritual literature. The work centres upon Typhon-Set as a power of revolt, disruption, liberation and transformation. Drawing upon classical and Egyptian mythology, late-antique magical traditions and modern ceremonial magic, Feist presents a sequence of hymns and invocations in which Typhon-Set appears as the adversarial force capable of scattering enemies, breaking bonds, overturning established orders and creating the conditions from which something new may arise. Among its literary and magical reference points are deliberate engagements with the biblical Book of Job and Aleister Crowley's Liber ARARITA. The resulting work occupies the boundary between ritual invocation, devotional poetry and contemporary theurgical writing, treating Typhon-Set not simply as a figure of destruction but as an agent of radical transformation, freedom, power and gnosis. IO TYPHON forms the second instalment in the Grayle Press sequence following Lioness: A New Hymn to Inanna and shares its compact 3.5 × 6 inch format.

SYNOPSIS
In IO TYPHON, Harper Feist turns to Typhon-Set, the powerful syncretic figure formed through the identification of the Greek Typhon with the Egyptian Set and encountered within the Greco-Egyptian magical tradition. Typhon in Greek mythology is the monstrous adversary who challenges Zeus and the Olympian order; Set is the Egyptian god associated variously with desert, storm, disorder, violence and opposition. Within the syncretic magical environment of the Hellenistic and Roman worlds these figures became intertwined as Typhon-Set, a formidable supernatural power invoked within the Greek Magical Papyri. Feist takes this inherited figure and develops a contemporary devotional and magical hymnal concerned with revolt, destruction, liberation and renewal. Its principal invocations approach Typhon-Set as a force capable of breaking restraints, scattering opposition and dismantling structures that have exhausted their usefulness. The text incorporates references and reinterpretations drawn from sources including the Book of Job and Aleister Crowley's Liber ARARITA, bringing biblical, Thelemic, classical and late-antique material into dialogue. The result is neither a conventional historical study nor a practical grimoire in the usual sense, but a work of ritual poetry and contemporary theurgy: sensual, adversarial and deliberately transgressive, in which destruction is presented not simply as an end in itself but as the necessary precursor to transformation. This deluxe issue, one of only 23 copies produced, adds a further hymn by the author and presents the work in its most elaborate and collectible form.
