Author Bio: Heinrich Rantzau or Ranzow (Ranzovius) (11 March 1526 – 31 December 1598) was a German humanist writer and statesman, a prolific astrologer and an associate of Tycho Brahe. He was son of Johan Rantzau. He was Governor of the Danish royal share in the Duchy of Holstein, a rich man and celebrated book collector. Rantzau is perhaps best remembered as a patron of scholars. His own Tractatus astrologicus de genethliacorum thematum appeared in 1597, and went through five editions by 1615. Governor of Holstein, a wealthy bibliophile, according to his 16th-century chronicler, Rantzau's library and treasury contained 6,300 books, charts, globes, clocks and astronomical instruments.

Provenance: Provenance: with handwritten ownership entries by Johan Henri Gotman 1668 and Georg Hannaeus 1681. Georg Hannaeus, 1681. The German-Danish physician Georg Hannaeus (1647 - 1699) was a philosopher & professor of ethics in Odense. He also became provincial physician for Funen. On March 24, 1684, Georg Hannaeus was admitted as a member (matriculation number 119) of the Leopoldina.

Synopsis: First edition of this heterodox work, one of two or three variant prints of the same year, this one probably the first, at least with the catalogue of Fairs at the end, often missing. The other variant with Paul Hellwig as second printer. To include a work published by Rantzau in Hamburg (1590) under the title Ranzovianum Calendarium. Contains detailed explanations of the basics of calendar calculation (beginning of the year, seasons, computus) according to the Julian and Gregorian calendars (pp. 205-300), numerous astrological chapters (pp. 435-530), which initially deal with the general, basic topics deal with (division of the zodiac, houses, five methods of house division, nature and properties of the seven planets and lunar nodes, zodiac dignity of the planets)
