Author Bio: BOSSI, Giovanni Angelo Valerio Castronovo Born in 1590 to a noble Milanese family, he was born Bonaventura. Initiated to study humanities, philosophy and jurisprudence, he entered the Order of the Barnabites in November 1609 during the generalship of Cosma Dossena, who assigned him as orator at the college of S. Paolo in Bologna. After 1623 he carried out various functions within the Order in Milan, then in Tortona, before moving to Pisa where he was provost of the college of S. Frediano, becoming familiar with the archbishop Giuliano de' Medici and his successor Scipione Pannocchieschi, of whom he was theologian and synodal examiner, and with Grand Duke Ferdinand II himself, who made use of him as an advisor in legal matters.
Synopsis: Tractatus de scrupolis et eorum remediis, dedicated to the bishop of Pavia-GB Sfondrati and which appeared in Venice in 1647. Rare moral treatise against obscene behaviour such as masturbation, adultery, and unfaithfulness, written by the barnabite Giovanni Bossi (1590-1665). This work was placed on the "Index Librorum Prohibitorum".
