DEVIL-WORSHIP IN FRANCE
Or The Question of Lucifer. A Record of Things Seen and Heard in the Secret Societies According to the Evidence of Initiates
By Arthur Edward Waite

Author Bio: Arthur Edward Waite (2 October 1857 – 19 May 1942) was a British poet and scholarly mystic who wrote extensively on occult and esoteric matters, and was the co-creator of the Rider–Waite tarot deck (also called the Rider–Waite–Smith or Waite–Smith deck). As his biographer R. A. Gilbert described him, "Waite's name has survived because he was the first to attempt a systematic study of the history of Western occultism—viewed as a spiritual tradition rather than as aspects of protoscience or as the pathology of religion."

Synopsis: The book is an investigative study of the alleged practices of devil worship and black magic in France during the late 19th century. Waite explores the history and origins of Luciferianism, the beliefs and practices of various occult groups, and the connection between these groups and the infamous ""Satanic Panic"" that swept through Europe at the time. The book provides an indepth look at the rituals, symbols, and beliefs associated with devil worship, and examines the social and cultural factors that contributed to its rise in popularity. Waite's work is considered a seminal text in the study of occultism and has been the subject of much debate and controversy over the years.
