1975 1st US Edtn THE HIEROGLYPHIC MONAD By Dr John Dee Very Good Esoteric
1975 1st US Edition
THE HIEROGLYPHIC MONAD
Translated and with commentary by J.W. Hamilton-Jones
Introduction by Diane di Prima
By Dr John Dee
Author Bio: Dr. John Dee (1527–1608/9) was an Elizabethan polymath—mathematician, astronomer, geographer and adviser to Queen Elizabeth I. Alongside his scientific work (navigation, instruments, and cosmography), Dee pursued Hermetic philosophy, alchemy, divination, and his famous “angelic” communications associated with Edward Kelley.
Synopsis: Dee’s Monas Hieroglyphica (originally published 1564) is a short, highly symbolic “theorem” sequence explaining an esoteric glyph (the “Monad”) as a compressed model of cosmic unity (Sun/Moon, elements, planets, etc.). It’s a foundational text for later Hermetic/occult traditions, and this Hamilton-Jones translation is the one most collectors mean when they refer to the classic modern English edition.
