Issued in commemoration of the Jubilee of the Theosophical Society by its General Council. Edited by C. Jinarajadasa, M.A. Published for the General Council of the Theosophical Society by The Theosophical Publishing House, Adyar, Madras, India.
By C. Jinarajadasa, M.A. [Editor]
Author Bio: Curuppumullage Jinarajadasa (16 December 1875, British Ceylon – 18 June 1953, United States) was a Ceylonese author, occultist, freemason and theosophist. The fourth president of the Theosophical Society, Jinarajadasa was one of the world's foremost Theosophical authors, having published more than 50 books and more than 1600 articles in periodicals during his life. His interests and writings included religion, philosophy, literature, art, science and occult chemistry.
Synopsis: A large-format commemorative history tracing the Society from its New York beginnings in 1875 through the Blavatsky and Olcott years and into the Besant period. The book surveys the institutional growth of the Society and touches on such themes as Adyar, the Esoteric Section, the Judge controversy, Besant’s presidency, the Order of the Star in the East, expansion at Adyar, and related Theosophical activity in India, Europe, and America. In practical terms, it is both an illustrated house history and a useful primary-source digest of the first fifty years of the Adyar Society.

Very Good - Original green cloth binding with gilt titling and Theosophical device to front board and spine. A sound, attractive copy with good shelf presence: gilt remains clear, boards remain firm, and the book presents well in the original cloth. There is light rubbing and bumping at corners and spine ends, with a little wear at the head of the spine; the rear board shows some pale marking / speckling and light surface scuffing. Internally, the book is clean overall, with light scattered foxing / soiling to blanks and prelims. The Annie Besant frontispiece is present, as are the title, copyright, and printer’s leaves. Old ownership markings to the prelims, including a dated inscription (“14-9-33”) and a later ink signature / ownership mark. A solid and increasingly uncommon Theosophical Society jubilee production in original publisher’s cloth.
Binding:
Hardcover, small quarto.
Collation:
Weiser describes the first edition as xviii + 422 pp., with frontispiece portrait of Annie Besant with tissue guard, black-and-white illustrations, index of names, and general index. Open Library records the edition at 452 pages, so online catalogues vary slightly in pagination.
