ALCHEMICAL WRITINGS OF EDWARD KELLY
The Englishman's Two Excellent Treatises on the Philosopher's Stone Together with The Theatre of Terrestrial Astronomy.
By Arthur Edward Waite

Author Bio: Arthur Edward Waite (2 October 1857 – 19 May 1942) was a British poet and scholarly mystic who wrote extensively on occult and esoteric matters, and was the co-creator of the Rider–Waite tarot deck (also called the Rider–Waite–Smith or Waite–Smith deck). As his biographer R. A. Gilbert described him, "Waite's name has survived because he was the first to attempt a systematic study of the history of Western occultism—viewed as a spiritual tradition rather than as aspects of protoscience or as the pathology of religion."

Provenance: From the library of Jake Stratton-Kent (1956–2023) — modern occult author/practitioner strongly associated with grimoire praxis (notably Grimorium Verum work). This copy bears the “From the library of Jake Stratton-Kent” bookplate supplied by Midian Books and JSKs inscription.

Synopsis: The first Samuel Weiser publication of this work, which is a facsimile of the 1893 edition, which was translated from the Hamburg Edition of 1676 and to which Waite had added a Biographical Preface. Edward Kelly (1555-1595) is more widely remembered for his role as John Dee's 'skryer' than as an alchemist, and there is some uncertainty as to whether he actually authored the works here attributed to him. A classic “working” Waite edition of the Dee/Kelly alchemical corpus: Waite’s substantial biographical preface and editorial apparatus alongside Kelly-attributed treatises on the Philosopher’s Stone and the Theatre of Terrestrial Astronomy, with index.
