Very Good - Engraved portrait frontispiece, engraved frontispieces, and multiple copper-engraved plates and folding maps throughout. Title-pages in each vol. state “The Eighth Edition” and “Illustrated with Copper-Plates.”
A clean and uniform set of this attractive illustrated edition.
Period full calf, gilt floral spines, raised bands, morocco labels (a few rubbed or replaced). Boards with gentle surface wear & corner bumping. Light cracking at a couple of joints but sound & firm. Text generally clean with age-toning and scattered foxing typical of period; stronger foxing to prelims/plate leaves. Engravings crisp; folding maps in good order with a few short closed splits at folds only. A solid, genuine 18th-century set, very presentable on shelf.
